Bookshelf Project

On December 6th, members of the West Wichita Rotary Club and West Wichita Interact Club gathered to build approximately 80 bookshelves for all the first graders at Lawrence Elementary. This marks the 23rd year for this project, which is organized by Roger Bowles and the workshop and materials are provided by Bob Goebel. Roger provides refreshments of “glue and sawdust” (aka eggnog & cookies)! The tradition at the end of the evening is to pour a bucket of sawdust over our Club President’s head. In his absence, the Interact Club President received that honor. Public Relations Chair, Jamie Anderson, arranged for Channel 12 to cover the event which aired on their newscast that evening. The bookshelves will be distributed to the students, along with stickers to personalize their bookshelves, during our annual all-club meeting at the school in January.
