Special Agent with the FBI

Special Agent Davis grew up in Winfield, Kansas and attended Friends University graduating in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal justice. Upon Graduation, he served in the United States Army as an Engineer Officer, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In 2010, he began graduate studies at Wichita State University, graduating with a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice. In 2011, SA Davis was hired by the U.S. Border Patrol and served as a Border Patrol Agent in Nogales, Arizona until joining the FBI in 2016. From 2016 until 2019 SA Davis worked at the FBI office Des Moines, Iowa before accepting a transfer to Wichita. Today, Special Agent Davis will give an overview of the FBI in the Wichita area, violations they cover, and provide some examples from cases in which he has been involved. He will also provide information on the FBI Citizens Academy and answer any questions our members may have. |

Ken Hertel and his family have been winning loyal customers by offering quick, tasty and nutritious meals for nearly a quarter century now. In November, they were recognized for their efforts when the Wichita Dietetic Association presented them with the Positive Plate Award. The award was created by the group of professional dieticians to highlight area restaurants that make healthy eating easy by following the Dietary Guidelines. Barn'rds was formerly located at 21st & Woodlawn but has now relocated to the west side on Maize Road, just south of 37th Street North. |

Director of Community Engagement for The Salvation Army serving all of Metro Wichita and Sedgwick County. Craig and his family are true Wichitan's at least for the last 35 years, by way of St Louis where he and his wife Susan grew up. He started his career with aspirations of being a high school band director, but changed directions for the excitement of communications and broadcasting industry, which led him eventually to Wichita. Craig is beginning his fourth year with The Salvation Army, helping tell the story of the Global organization that began here in Wichita, in 1865, when two Salvation Army sisters road their bicycles south from Hutchinson to begin to save souls and coordinate the very first meeting at 601 E Douglas.

Prior experience includes over four decades in pharmaceutical leadership including the founding management board member of Ortho Biotech, the biotechnology division of Johnson & Johnson, where he commercialized the world’s first monoclonal antibody and recombinant protein for human therapeutic use. Mr. Zahn is the retired President of Schering Laboratories where he led change and grew the business to a $6 billion, 7000 employee integrated pharmaceutical research development and manufacturing organization. His portfolio included leading modalities in cardiovascular, oncology, allergy, and asthma. Mr. Zahn has been a guest lecturer at leading universities discussing health policy and global impact. He is active in community groups, a member of the Iola Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. |

Following graduation from Newman University in 1978, Mike Ludlow attended KU Medical School, graduating in 1982. He then completed residency at Via Christi St. Francis where he was 1st year Resident of the Year, and Chief Resident his 3rd year. Dr. Ludlow has practiced at West Wichita Family Physicians from 1985 to present. He has been married to his wife, Carm, since 1979. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren that he enjoys immensely! Today, Mike will be sharing updates on Covid-19 and a little bit about their WWFP practice to state what's new and different there. |

Andrea graduated from Kansas State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Agricultural Economics. After graduation, she worked in the tax division of Arthur Andersen & Co. in Kansas City for three years, during which time she became a Certified Public Accountant. Andrea then moved back to Manhattan, KS and began working for DPRA Incorporated, a government contractor with offices throughout the U.S. and Canada and headquartered in Manhattan, while also working tax seasons for Varney & Associates, CPAs. During this time, she earned a Master of Business Administration from KSU and taught Business Strategy as an adjunct professor at KSU. In 2002, Andrea returned to her hometown of Russell, KS to take her current position of Secretary/Treasurer at John O. Farmer, Inc., an oil and gas producer with operations throughout central and western Kansas. She is the Chairman-Elect of the Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association, serves on its Executive Committee as the Finance Committee Chairman, and also as the Federal and State Tax Committee Chairman, and was the 2015 recipient of the KIOGA President’s Leadership Award. Andrea is currently serving as Chairman of the board of trustees of the Sunflower Foundation, a statewide health foundation. Additionally, she is on the boards of Russell Development, Inc., Russell PRIDE, Inc. and the Beta Upsilon of Gamma Phi Beta House Corporation at Kansas State University. She also serves on the Russell Co. 4-H Program Development Committee and the St. John Lutheran Church Council. Previously, Andrea served on the USD 407 School Board for 4 ½ years and the Russell County Hospital Board for 8 ½ years, serving as Chairman for the last three of those years. She was heavily involved with the formation of and served as Treasurer of Waudby & Co. Clothiers, a community-owned women’s clothing boutique. Andrea has also served as Chairman of the Russell Area Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary Club of Russell, Assistant Governor of Rotary District 5670, Governor of Rotary District 5670, Chairman of the 2018 Rotary Heartland PETS, Co-Chairman of the Rotary District 5680 Merger Committee, and Facilitator at the 2019 Rotary Zone 25b/29 Institute. She has traveled to Panama, Guatemala, and Ecuador on Rotary service trips. Andrea was a member of the 2019 class of Leadership Kansas. She was a 2019 recipient of the Rotary District 5680 Service Above Self Award. In 2016, she was the recipient of the Russell Area Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award. Andrea lives on her family’s farm southwest of Russell, along with her husband, Tom, who farms and ranches with her father. Her family raises registered Hereford and Angus cattle and produces wheat and grain sorghum. Andrea and Tom have one daughter, Katherine, who is a junior at Kansas State University. |

This year's Christmas luncheon will look a little different (just like everythying else!) but we will have a nice buffet with a holiday dessert to celebrate the season. President Colin and Mark Chamberlin have prepared a special holiday video that will serve as our program. This weel's meeting will be an in-person meeting only - no Zoom option. The meeting will be recorded for members to view later. We will continue to practice covid precautions.
Our Christmas Family Wish List was sent via e-mail for members to choose what gift(s) they would like to purchase. This is being done on-line this year so tags and gift information will not be printed and distributed. Please wrap the gifts (without a bow), secure a nametag on the outside with the name and gift #, and return it to our December 8 or 15 club meeting. If you prefer, gifts can be dropped off on December 8 or 15 at RHCC front door (under the portico) on one of those days between 1:00 and 1:15.

At Catholic Charities, Inc. Executive Director, Wendy Glick, works to lead a staff of nearly 150 full time and part time employees in addressing hunger, homelessness, and domestic violence; assisting couples and families, adults with disabilities and seniors; and living our stewardship through partnerships and collaboration. In her leadership position, she plays a key role in providing a vision for the work of Catholic Charities, managing the day-to-day operations, as well as identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors for capital and annual gifts. After more than 20 years of working in for-profit, Wendy began her work in not-for-profit in 1998 serving as the volunteer coordinator for Catholic Charities. In 2002, she moved over to another diocesan ministry, The Lord’s Diner, and for 8 years served as its executive director, before stepping down in July, 2011. Returning to Catholic Charities in August, 2011, Wendy has served as the Director of Development and the Senior Director of Mission Services and Development, before moving in to her current role. Wendy’s return to Catholic Charities comes from her desire to “do more” and through her work, have a greater impact on the lives of those in need. Her ultimate goal is to share the multiple ways Catholic Charities shares God’s love by caring for all people through the 13 different programs providing services throughout the 25 counties of our diocese and touching more than 18,000 lives each year. Wendy holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She has been married for more than 38 years to her husband Karl. Her immediate family includes Cody (31), who lives in Wichita, and Kyle (35), who with his wife Jamie, and their son Will and daughter Gwen, reside in the Chicago area. |

Capacity Communications unifies internal company culture with the external brand reputation. We each have individual capacity to succeed and perform and are a part of corporate capacity. Janice has created Capacity Communications to examine individual levels of growth within organizations to find opportunities for increase productivity and profits. She utilizes her 20 plus marketing experience and career to evaluate internal and external communication and build more successful strategies for success. Common sense marketing with well founded research can drive actual results. With Process Communication Model training, another layer of depth is added to marketing performance and certainty in effective communication. Janice Perkins, Owner of Capacity Communications, has a BFA from Rockford College in Illinois. She also attended college at the Art Institute in Chicago and at Regents College in London. She is currently getting her MBA from Pittsburg State University. Janice moved to Wichita from Atlanta in 1996 and has worked for Koch Industries, ICM, Girl Scouts and various other industries in business development and marketing. She volunteered for decades for the YMCA and served on the corporate marketing committee. She currently serves on the BOD of WIBA and serves on marketing committees for WIBA, Girls on the Run, the Girl Scouts, Exploration Place and the downtown Sedgwick County Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition.

Amanda Bustamante is the COVID-19 Outreach specialist at the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD). She works closely with community partners to help educate them on COVID-19, safe practices, local, state and federal guidelines and help them slow down the spread in our community any way she can. She is also the Point of Contact for Vaccine Messaging and with that she works to keep all our vaccine information as relevant and accurate as possible for both the public and our COVID-19 response team at the Health Department.

This will be our first week back at Rolling Hills Country Club for this new calendar year. As Capital Program Manager, Bill’s current primary role is working with the Capital Improvement Programs (CIP) of the Water and Sewer Utilities utilizing asset management principles and various infrastructure plans for prioritization and funding of construction, rehabilitation, and/or replacement of assets. Bill’s other roles are centered around the construction of a new northwest water treatment and filtration facility (NWWF) and wastewater treatment plant improvements to meet biological nutrient removal (BNR) requirements. |

Sarah Haymaker is the Deputy District Director with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in Wichita, Kansas and has recently completed 18 years of federal service. Prior to joining SBA Sarah was with USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in Washington, D.C. where she led the public affairs program for the communications division, was a special assistant to the Chief of NRCS, and served as Chief of Staff for the Senior White House Advisor to the Secretary of Agriculture. Prior to service at USDA headquarters, Sarah held several technical and management positions across Louisiana before joining the senior leadership team and eventually serving a term appointment as the state director. Sarah is an Oklahoma native where her family has owned and operated small businesses for more than 60 years. Sarah holds both a Bachelor and Master of Science from Oklahoma State University. |

Raised on a cattle and wheat farm in Southwest Kansas, Eric Melgren was in the first generation of his family to attend college. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wichita State University, where he served as student body president. After college, he worked for a few years in business management before attending law school at Washburn University, where he was a member of the Law Review and graduated in the top 5% of his class. Following law school, he was a law clerk for Federal Judge Frank Theis in Wichita for 2 years. Then, for 15 years he was with the Wichita firm of Foulston & Siefkin where his practice focused on tax and business matters. In March 2002, President George W. Bush appointed Melgren United States Attorney for the District of Kansas. He served in that position until September 2008, when the U. S. Senate confirmed President Bush’s nomination of Melgren as a judge in the U.S. District Court in Kanas. He sits in the chambers where he clerked for Judge Theis. Melgren has been active in the community, including serving as Chairman of the Board of the United Way of the Plains, Chairman of Leadership Wichita, and President of the Wichita State University Alumni Association. He has also served as President of the Wesley E. Brown Inn of Court, and President of the Federal Bar Association Chapter for the District of Kansas and Western Missouri. Judge Melgren also was appointed as the Tenth Circuit representative to the Defender Services Committee of the Judicial Conference for the United States, and served as the Judicial co-chair of a national Judicial/Executive Branch task addressing problems relating to Southwest Border prosecutions. Fun Fact: Eric was a member of our Rotary club 1994-2002. |

Lynn Rogers was sworn in as the 41st State Treasurer on January 4, 2021. Lynn is a businessman, former State Senator, and former Wichita Board of Education president, who has been fighting for Kansas families for decades. Lynn has more than 40 years of experience in banking, serving in a number of capacities for a variety of financial institutions. In 2016, he retired after spending over thirty years traveling Kansas as an agriculture banker assisting farmers and ranchers with financial planning and investment. He worked to provide more than $750 million in leasing and financing services to farmers, ranchers, and grain cooperatives. This experience has helped him understand the challenges Kansans face, especially those in rural communities and in the agricultural sector. In 2001, Lynn was elected to the Wichita USD 259 Board of Education. He worked on behalf of the children and parents in Wichita serving as president or vice-president for seven of those years. Lynn also volunteered on his local Parent Teacher Organization and his local church. Lynn was elected to the Kansas Senate in 2016. He represented the 25th Senate District, which includes parts of Wichita, from 2017 to 2019. During his time in the Senate, he served as the Ranking member of the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance and was a member of the Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs and the Senate Committee on Agriculture. He also served on the Legislative Post Audit Committee. He went on to serve as Lieutenant Governor from 2019 to 2021. As Lieutenant Governor, Lynn was the head of the Office of Rural Prosperity. He focused on increasing opportunities in rural communities. He made significant progress in expanding broadband and housing opportunities in rural Kansas. Lynn is a commonsense leader who has a passion for education and improving the lives of Kansas families. He has lived in Wichita for over 30 years with his wife, Kris. They have three adult children – Kyle, Kelsey, and Keegan – all of whom are graduates of Wichita public schools. |

Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission

Mike Sharpe became just the second President in the 23-year history of the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission when he began his duties on January 4, 2021. Sharpe comes to Wichita from Kansas City where he previously served as the Director of Business Development for 7 ½ years with the Kansas City Sports Commission. During that span, Sharpe was the lead in securing several national sporting events for the KC community including the US Figure Skating Championships, USA Gymnastics Championships, USA Boxing National Championships, and multiple NCAA National Championship events. Prior to his time with the KC Sports Commission, he served 6 years as Assistant Commissioner of the Great West Conference (NCAA DI), seven years as Athletic Director of Avila University (NAIA), and 10 years as a men’s basketball coach at the Community College and Division I levels. Mike will talk about his past experiences, his brief time in Wichita, and what the Sports Commission is working on for the future.

While growing up on a farm in Iowa, Dave VanderGriend learned early on how farming affects both rural communities and the global economy. Dave began working in the ethanol industry in the 1970s and later became vice president of operations for High Plains Corporation, an ethanol production company. In 1995, he used this knowledge to create ICM with the goal of advancing renewable energy using efficient, streamlined methods that sustain agriculture and reduce waste. The company began as a 20-employee fabrication shop. ICM has since become the ethanol industry’s leading provider of process technologies, which have been integrated into more than 100 plants worldwide, which collectively produce 8.8 billion gallons of ethanol and 25 million tons of distillers grains annually. In 2012, Dave received the Renewable Fuels Association Leadership Award for his role in advancing the ethanol industry through improved efficiencies and technological development that helps increase profitability throughout the industry. As president of Urban Air Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving air quality and protecting public health by reducing vehicle emissions, Dave drives change on a national level. He is also a board member of Growth Energy, the leading biofuel trade association in the country that represents producers and supporters of ethanol who are working to bring consumers better choices at the fuel pump and improve the environment for future generations. Dave is passionate about supporting projects and charitable organizations that involve people, food, energy and environmental restoration. He cares deeply about many local and international causes and is focused on removing barriers to opportunities and providing those less fortunate with the means to thrive. |

Danielle R. leads the Marketing & Development efforts at the Museum of World Treasures (MOWT). A Wichita native, Danielle holds a Master of Science in Biological Anthropology from California State University, Hayward where she specialized in primate culture and communication, and a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from Washburn University in Topeka. Danielle began her career as a zoo educator and found her way to the MOWT as an education volunteer while working at the Sedgwick County Zoo. She began her career with the MOWT as the Education Director in 2008 and has returned in this new role to help reach their goals in growing their amazing visitor experiences, grant-writing, and relationship development. Danielle loves to stay busy in her free time as a group fitness instructor, enjoys bellydance, and anything zoo & dog related! |
