No club meeting due to COVID-19  "stay at home" order. See our President's message below about the
board's decision on upcoming meetings.
MESSAGE FROM OUR CLUB PRESIDENT
Good Day Fellow Rotarians,
It’s the beginning of a new week.  We are still dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, we are getting cabin fever, and the government is trying to figure out the safest way to reopen our world.  Speaking, of that, we as a Board of Directors met last Monday, and decided that the likelihood of RHCC reopening anytime soon was not a reality.  So, until such time as we can meet face to face,  we will postpone any attempt of meeting at RHCC until at least the first week of June.  We also decided that having a quality Zoom meeting for a group as large as ours would be to difficult at best.  Therefore, we divided our membership into smaller groups for each board member to call so we can stay in touch with each of you.  We will again discuss reopening at the May board meeting.  We appreciate your patience as we work  together to determine the best way to operate during this time.

I was listening to public radio the other day to a conversation about all the doom and gloom that’s becoming the current news.  We were reminded that our world has been in crisis situations many times before.  Take for instance, Apollo 13.  In the movie, Flight Director, Gene Kranz, overheard a couple of his other team members discussing the situation they were in and how the survival chances were for the return of the crippled space craft.  Kranz intervened, “gentlemen, with all due respect, I believe this is going to be our finest hour.”  Just as in the movie, we need to think positive like Flight Director Kranz.  Yes, it’s the pits now, and interruption in our lives is immense,  however, this soon shall pass as we all work together to make this time one of our finest hours. Stay safe and be well.  Until we meet again remember to live by our Rotary motto of the things we think, say and do.
Regards,
Vern

This has been a good time for some home maintenance.  I’ve gotten the gutters cleaned and some gutter guards installed.  I’ve done some seeding of thin areas in the lawn, and the HS neighbor kid changed out all my ceiling lights to LED bulbs!  I was part of the Kansas 4-H Scholarship review team – 350 applications for 80 scholarships!  It was exciting to read about their accomplishments, learning, and future plans.

For entertainment, I’ve enjoyed having e-books available thru the Wichita Library System. And I’m taking advantage of the free 30 day trial of all the streaming TV programs!!

THANK YOU NOTE RECEIVED
Dear West Wichita Rotarians,
Our family is so grateful for the many kind and thoughtful ways you all remembered Ralph during our difficult time.
The donation for the scholarship is an example of how generous you have been to his memory.
Love and appreciation,

Our thanks to Mark Chamberlin who has faithfully delivered the

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
APRIL IS MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH MONTH
Taken from: www.rotary.org
Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.
