No club meeting due to COVID-19  "stay at home" order.
MESSAGE FROM OUR
CLUB PRESIDENT
Good Morning Rotarians,
We are are now at four missed meetings and counting.  The number of corona virus cases is increasing.  But enough of the doom and gloom.  So with that, I’d like to encourage each of you to keep in touch with each other via social media or phone.  As leadership, we will work at keeping touch with our weekly bulletins.  Also, we are exploring ways to keep connected as a club.  So, in the meantime, keep sending in your happy basket items, other good experiences, and items of humor to Diane.  Remember to live by the Rotary Motto of the things we think, say, and do.
In closing, a Thought for the Day:   “ One day this is going to be over—can you imagine that day?  We’ll come out into the sun, laugh, hug, sing, dance and hold hands.  I’m living for that day.  It’ll be like nothing we’ve ever experienced.”  Glenon Doyle

Cowboy Rog’ got tired of sitting around Wichita so I went down to the farm where we’re having calves this time of year..16 so far!
Ernie, my donkey which guards the cows, likes his Snickers candy bar but he does not like Kentucky Fried Chicken. And Ernie does not have the virus. I hope everybody else in our Rotary club is having some kind of fun trying not to be bored.

I’m an “essential” worker. LOL.  I’m still going to the office every day.  However, I am spending more time with my daughter than I would if she was at school and getting to watch more of her basketball workouts than I would if she was two hours away.

No change. I am retired.
I am working with the Waterman to find funding for a major Global Grant in Peru.                                         I am also working with the ADG Lee Musil Larned and Donna Meier Pfeifer of the Pratt club  to fund a Global Grant Educational project in Kenya.

I am making at least 5 calls each day to friends and family to catch up on their lives and share what is going on in mine.  It has been several years since I have talked with some of these friends.  Yes, I am keeping track because it helps me think of others I would want to chat with too.

I pledge $5 to the Happy Basket. My family is healthy today, for this reason I am happy.  I am happy we did not have to close Ultra Modern.  We are an essential business due to the fact that pools without treatment are a health risk.  We kept all long time employees utilizing the shared work program, reduced store hours and we are cleaning, cleaning, cleaning!  If anyone needs liquid bleach, we sell liquid chlorine which when diluted makes several gallons of bleach. God Bless each of you and your family. Hope to see you very soon!
P.S. Remember 100% of proceeds (from the Happy Basket) goes to help needy families!

I am working as usual…how is that for a misstatement.  I got internet installment, was given a Butler laptop for use and am at my kitchen table working.

My first thought is to thank Mark for the really nice little video....well done!
When I think about how the world has changed ...heck, I've been retired for so long that I've forgotten what it's like to go to work!  But I do have a little story about one of our former members and how he is serving our community.
My Church, First Presbyterian, sponsors a community breakfast once a month where we feed about 200 people each time.  I have been participating in this for several years now and have recently taken over the management of our program.  We've been supported by a number of other churches that have helped serve, donate food, etc.  One of the folks that has helped in collecting and distributing health aids like kleenex, lip balm, hand sanitizers, etc. that are really appreciated by our guests is Tim Devine.  Many of you "older" Rotarians will remember Tim, and he asked that I pass on his regards to all.  Nice to see that even retired Rotarians still serve!

THE GOOD APPLE AWARD
Wichita Public Schools
Spring 2020
The Good Apple Award program allows schools and administrative support centers in the Wichita School District to recognize employees, volunteers and partners who provide exemplary service to the district and its students. Award recipients are nominated and selected at the building where their efforts are most profoundly felt. Twice each year, principals and selection committees take up the arduous task of reviewing the nominations and selecting only three award recipients for their buildings.

This year, our Rotary Club was a recipient of this award, nominated by Lawrence Elementary. This is what the Lawrence staff submitted with their nomination: “The Rotary Club of West Wichita has wrapped their arms around west side schools including Lawrence Elementary. They provide support for a variety of needs for our families, as well as support teachers and students through recognitions, books, bookcases, donations and a variety of other services.“

District notice: The award ceremony that was scheduled for April 6 was canceled to protect the health and safety of our employees, volunteers, partners and families due to the Coronavirus.

QUARTERLY DUES BILLING
Our April - June dues billing was e-mailed through our club's website (Club Runner) last Friday. As you will notice, meal credits were given for meetings that were scheduled but canceled due to coronavirus closures. Please pay your dues promptly along with any additional fees you have charged on your account. Mail your check to: Rotary Club of West Wichita, P.O. Box 12064, Wichita, KS  67277.

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
