No club meeting due to COVID-19  "stay at home" order. We are currently exploring the possibility of a virtual meeting.
MESSAGE FROM OUR CLUB PRESIDENT
Good Day, All,
I miss seeing all my fellow Rotarians, however, we are one week closer to when we will again meet in person.  We can take heart in that each day we get closer to overcoming the current pandemic.  In the meantime, it is important to me that we can
can maintain our identity as a Rotarian group. We can do this by looking for opportunities to help others and seize the moment.  Pardon the over used phrase, but, we are all in this together.  Until we meet again whether in person or otherwise, continue to live by the Rotary motto of what we think, say, and do.  Stay well and be safe.

Thought for the Day

As many of you have heard, my husband and I bought some land from Bob Scott in Fiddlers Cove (a WONDERFUL past member of our club). We broke ground on our house a few months ago. A large part of the work I do at TkFast is residential Smart Home Design, so we’ve been busy getting all the wiring in place to make our home very smart. I look forward to walking out on the patio and with the press of one button the lights turn on dimmed at the right level, the patio heaters turn on, the automated outdoor screen comes down, the James Taylor Pandora station plays above and the TV turns on some Shocker Basketball. I’ve enjoyed finding ways for my husband and I to create a simplified life in such a complex and unknown time. In the meantime, anyone want to pick out some toilets for my house 😉

We have been home bound for over a month. But, it has been special. Bunny is doing great after her knee replacement. It has been really nice spending all our time together without anything to do or no place to go. It is the first time in our life we can just be together without any outside events except to pick up the mail. Very relaxing, just enjoying each other’s company.  The last month went by fast. Zooming the six grandson’s and their families a lot.  They just want Grano to get back to normal and she is!

I’ve wondered what it may be like being retired.  I’m 67 and I won’t be working full time forever.  Well, I’ve gotten a “dry run” and there are plenty of things to keep me busy.  I’ll still be working for several years but I have an idea of what it will be like when I’m not.  What I’m happy about is I’m getting a LOT of exercise.  Walking with my wife in various parks has added lots of time together in a healthy endeavor.

My world has changed by spending more time with Zoom and Teams than I thought I would ever spend. This has been much easier than I thought and has made me think about more potential opportunities.

I was able to have a great Easter celebration with my grandchildren. I am grateful for good relationships with my daughters and their husbands. I am truly blessed.

Things for us have obviously changed for us a little, but being an essential business, we are making do. Calls into the office have definitely slowed down but there is quite a bit of backlog from storms last year so our crews are getting a chance to catch up as the weather warms up. We are taking measures with customers by avoiding going into there homes and doing as much over the phone as possible. I never realized until now how much I enjoyed getting to meet and interact face to face with our customers.

Things at home have definitely been affected more. My wife is a hair stylist and work has been shut down by the state so we are getting to experience the perks of a stay at home mom without the kids (haha). Easter was a bummer without being able to spend with friends and family but our one silver lining is how much more quality time we get to spend together with nowhere to run and her able to get random chores done throughout the day.
VOLUNTEER SURGE
Our District Governor, Kurt Harper, shared the following message from RI Director Larry Dimmitt:
I know many of you  have found creative ways to stay connected and fight the terrible coronavirus.  And many are asking, "What else can I do?" In this regard, I am pleased to announce that Rotary, working with Global Impact (a non-profit organization that works with international charities) has launched a new program called Volunteer Surge. This program offers Rotarians, family members and friends free training about how they can help fight the virus, either from their homes or by assisting healthcare workers (subject to governmental requirements). Rotary's goal is to recruit 1 million volunteers to sign up for this program.

For more information about Volunteer Surge, I invite you to go to www.tgig.org  to see how you can participate in this program. And I especially encourage you to ask your clubs to share this link with others on Facebook, email and other social media.

As Rotarians, we are People of Action, and this is a wonderful opportunity to show what we as Volunteers can do.

Thanks, and be safe.
Larry

THANK YOU NOTE RECEIVED
(This is in response to the donation from last November's Soup luncheon when we raised money to donate to ShelterBox)
Dear Rotary Club of West Wichita,
I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your donation to ShelterBox. Your support is at the heart of every deployment we undertake, enabling us to provide emergency shelter to communities devastated by disaster.
Thank you for your generosity,

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
