DOWNTOWN ROTARY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The Rotary Club of Wichita is excited to announce we have opened up our annual Reading is Fundamental (RIF) reading days with Wichita School District USD 259 to our fellow Rotarians! The RIF program started with our club in 1987 serving a few schools in the district.  We now service over 25 schools, plus Child Start, distributing books to about 9600 students between Pre-K and 5th Grade!  Approximately 19,000 books in one year!!  For many of these students these are the only books they will get that they get to put THEIR name in!  The RIF Reader is a vital part of this project. This is the opportunity for us to educate students on the importance of reading, how it will affect them in their future career choices, etc.  But more importantly, as a RIF reader you leave the classroom full of excitement about our youth!  It is a win win for all of us!  The time commitment is about 2 hours.  All you need is your driver’s license to get into the schools! Everything else will be provided by the schools.  We hope you will join us.   We will also have reads February 19th, May 13th and May 14th of 2025!  As soon as the times are set up on Sign Up Genius we will let your club know!
Thank you in advance for your interest in the Rotary Club of Wichita RIF project! If you have any questions or want more information, please contact Carrie Hendrickson at carrieleighhendrickson@gmail.com. Thank you!

PRESENTATION TO
MICHAEL PHIPPS
We had the pleasure of visiting Michael in his home last week. Ed Frey & Vern Klassen presented him with a framed picture Vern had made in recognition of Michael's service and contributions to our club over the years. Michael joined our club on June 30, 1987 as a Charter Member under the Classification of "Hotels",  working as the General Manager of the Wichita Airport Hilton (now Doubletree). We held many of our Rotary events at the hotel throughout the years: Valentine parties, Christmas luncheons, Wine Dinner, Board meetings and so much more! Michael's attention to detail always guaranteed we had wonderful accommodations. Since he is no longer able to attend meetings, he keeps up with us through our weekly newsletter. Michael sends his best wishes to everyone for a wonderful Christmas. Thank you, Michael, for being an integral part of our club!
