TODAY'S MEETING
Oct 20, 2026 12:00 PM
PolioPlus
PolioPlus

Have you ever stopped to think about what it would take to meaningfully improve (or even save) the lives of significant numbers of our world’s kids?

Dana Brewer and Colin McKenney will illustrate how we can each make a surprising amount of impact on those lives, for a very reasonable investment in their future.

Rotary District 5680's PolioPlus Society was established in 2024 by then District Governor Gloria Homeier, with assistance from current District Governor Isaac McNary and Dana Brewer.

Those fundraising efforts led to the establishment of more than 100 PolioPlus society memberships in our district. The ongoing donations at $100 per year per member raises more than $10,000 annually.

The current 2-to-1 match from the Gates Foundation multiplies the total raised to more than $30,000 per year. Rotary International tells us that three dollars raised will vaccinate one child, so at least 10,000 of our world’s children would be protected against possibly crippling polio or a fatal case of measles, as well as four other diseases prevalent in children: tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus.

EXPAND OUR REACH!

Invite a Friend to Rotary This Fall

Rotary District 5680 is encouraging members to bring guests to their local club meetings — and there’s a little extra incentive! Each friend you invite to visit our club between September and December could help generate real cash for our next club project. It’s a simple way to grow Rotary, expand our reach, and support the work we do together. Bring a friend, share Rotary, and help us build an even stronger community.

TAKE PART IN A SERVICE OPPORTUNITY THIS TUESDAY

Join fellow Rotarian Dennis Nguutu this Tuesday evening at Second Light Shelter, 1025 N. Main, for a hands-on service project supporting our neighbors in need.

Volunteers will help distribute shoes and socks to shelter guests — a simple act that makes a meaningful difference. If you’re available, come lend a hand and share some kindness. Dennis will be running a flu shot clinic from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the shelter so volunteers can plan to come by any time after 4:00 p.m. and leave early, if needed.

SIGN UP TO HELP GRILL & SERVE FOR FALL FESTIVALS!

  • October 23 - Lawrence Elementary Fall Festival
  • October 30 - Benton Elementary Boo Bash

Sign-up sheets will be at the club meeting or reach out to Meliss Hamilton or Shannon Bauer if you'd like to help.
