INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

Rotary Reads: Project developed by DeAnn Sullivan, Mark Chambelrin and Shelli Kadel where members video themselves reading a children’s book to their children/grandchildren then upload the video to our club’s Facebook page. This project was initiated by one of our last year’s Russian Open World Team members who requested these reading videos to use on their social media in celebration of their Library in Russia.
Russian Open World Team: Hosted this year by the Rotary Club of East Wichita. Assistance provided by our club members during their visit.
Inbound RITE teachers: Project co-sponsored with the Sunrise Rotary club. We had 3 teachers from Panama and 2 from Argentina. Seven of our members served as home hosts. This project is organized by Shelli Kadel and Dalia Hale (Sunrise Rotary). The Summer outbound RITE program was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Rotary District in Australia: We took up a collection of $1,075 from club members to send to help with their fire & drought relief efforts.
International Water Project by Dave Abbott. The $83,084 water project in Santa Maria de Fatima Peru is to provide 80 families drinkable water as opposed to drinking out of the Amazon River or rain water. Our club is providing $100 and our District 5680 $10,000. This project will use Community managed, solar powered proprietary water filtration and chlorination system.

Blue Badge presentations were made to the following members upon completion of the Red Badge Program: Grady Goff, Scott Hinderliter, Jon Roper, Angela Malley
STAR classes were held each month organized by Mark Hansen. Pam Chambers & Rod Brown attended the full series of classes and received their star pin. We have a few more pending their pin presentation.
Introductory letters were sent out to new members by Randy Bowles.
VOCATIONAL SERVICE

High School Scholarship program: The focus was changed to target Vo-Tech bound students only but no applicants were identified so scholarships were not awarded this year.
Interact Club: co-sponsored with the Sunrise Rotary Club; Randy Bowles stepped up as our club’s representative.
Interact Dodgeball Tournament: Mark Hansen provided a team to represent our club. This was a fundraiser for their Panama trip.
Interact trip to Panama and RYLA (Rotary Leadership Youth Awards) were both canceled this year due to COVID-19.
OTHER
Districts 5670 & 5690 merged on July 1, 2019 to become District 5680 with 61 clubs. Our new District spans the entire western 2/3 of Kansas from the Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma borders and include four clubs from the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Wine Dinner Event: We had 112 in attendance and raised $13,569.46 in proceeds to fund our charitable activities throughout the year. Approximately 73% of our members participated in some way with this event through planning, contributing, sponsoring, attending. Project sponsor: Vern Klassen; Project Manager: DeAnn Sullivan.
West Wichita Charitable Foundation grants were selected and distributed in 2019 using the extra proceeds available from our 2018 Wine Event. Members were given the opportunity to submit requests for grant money to be used for educational purposes.
$2,500 – Lawrence & Benton Elementary schools - gift cards purchased for teachers to buy classroom supplies
$1,000 – Ortiz Elementary - to help buy materials needed, meals, helping hands, tutoring to help parents learn to help their students improve learning skills.
$1,500 – Multicultural English Learning Center – to be used to help provide meals, curriculum, classroom supplies, gas for vans, and staff salaries.
