MESSAGE FROM OUR
CLUB PRESIDENT
Thought of the Day
“Everyone gets blue from time to time, but luck is at hand because there are hundreds of small things that can bring us cheer and add a little sunshine to every day.”  by Julia Lafflin

That brings to mind a story of the small things we can do. While calling around to my fellow Rotarians this week, he told the story of taking the time to make dinner for his next door neighbor, a couple in their 80’s.  They all then went out on the lake in their pontoon boat to have dinner together.  It turned out to be a most delightful evening for both couples.
During this time of social distancing, quarantine, and being away from our normal Rotary meetings, be aware of those around you, and remember; continue to live by our Rotary Motto of the things we think, say, and do.  Wishing you all the best during this unusual time.

Work: first time ever, had a maximum # of hours imposed!  And un-imposed two days later because of the stimulus package! Not missing so many Rotary meetings because of work hours – the meetings got cancelled!
Personal: not too much change as I haven’t had much of a personal life at this time year anyway!  One change – had to go shopping during work hours as ground beef is gone by the time I get off!
Happy Basket: Got to go to a Rotary social for the first time!  Brought a Church friend with me and she had a great time.  So did I!

Ed Frey                                                                  I’m used to heading to the airport about every other Sunday to fly out to different locations for work. Now I’m working from home with clients to develop new ways to meet their immediate needs until such time that travel is an option again.

Now, my days start with a little prayer time, checking the latest news online (tired of TV!), kayaking on the lake before sunrise, then spending some time with my wife, BJ, checking in with a couple of elderly neighbors, working and then going for a walk or out on the boat with BJ in the evening.  Something I did not anticipate is that my stress level seems to have decreased and I’m sleeping better than I have in a long time.  There may be some lessons to be learned here ...

I'm happy because our son Mitch and his family (of Olathe) got back from the Cancun area last Thursday just before their HardRock hotel and many other Cancun area businesses closed down Friday.  They had planned to fly back Friday but their flight was canceled so they had to scramble to get an earlier flight.  Anyway, they got home last Thursday, their neighbors went to the grocery store for them,  and they are doing well (but quarantined this past week and next).  Happy Happy!

Cindy and I got our Catalina 30 Sailboat "Ragtime" in the water and the Mainsail on yesterday at Cheney Reservoir, Ninnescah Sailing Association. You can take a Google Maps tour of our Dock and premises on Ninnescah.org. The tour starts out on our boat Ragtime. We will be offering an evening sail and dinner for the 2020 Wine Dinner Auction,
so more details to follow.
The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT-
ELECT
Greetings to all of my fellow West Wichita Rotarians. While I’m not yet sure how much everyone has changed their daily activities related to the virus or the stay-at-home order, maintaining a distance from each other seems to be getting more and more common. The current practice of social distancing is making me feel more out of touch than usual, especially because I am really not plugged in through social media to the extent that most people are. Our regular Rotary meetings each Tuesday have been one of the key opportunities I have had through the years to make time to connect with others I might not get to interact with otherwise, and so not having those meetings has made me feel more isolated than usual.
Since it may be several weeks before we can once again gather as a group, let’s do what we can to stay connected in other ways. Many of you are connected through social media, and so it won’t take much special effort to keep those connections going. For the rest of us who aren’t quite as plugged in, this weekly bulletin can be even more important than usual to connect us as a club. If you have items for the Happy Basket or just interesting things to share in general, please send those to Diane to be shared with all. It won’t be the same as getting together in person, but I think it will be much better than going an extended period of time without connecting in some way.
I look forward to a time when social distancing is no longer the popular term of the day. Until then, let’s do what we can to stay in touch.

OUTBOUND RITE PROGRAM
Update from Dalia Hale, Sunrise Rotary
The Wichita RITE Committee has been in communication with our Rotary friends in Panama about the future of the program at this time. We want to let you know that due to the global response of COVID-19, 2020 RITE Outbound Program is canceled for this summer.

We hope to move forward in Summer 2021 unless any mitigating circumstances get in the way of assuring all participants: teachers, students, hosts families, all involved Rotarians, and the school communities of their health and safety.

Please be informed these circumstances may affect the RITE Inbound Program from Panama and Argentina in January 2021 as well. You will be informed of our ongoing communications as we get through this pandemic.

Thank you for your ongoing support to RITE.
