TODAY'S MEETING
Nov 01, 2022 12:00 PM
Today's meeting will be held at Venue 3130, located at 3130 W. Central
Our first annual soup luncheon was held on April 25, 2000 to raise funds and awareness for Hunger Plus, Inc, a not-for-profit relief agency that provided food and related supplies for emergency use and for longer term projects to improve food security. The money saved by not eating at RHCC on that day was sent to sponsor shipments of dehydrated soup from the Breedlove Dehydrated Foods facility in Lubbock, Texas, which was a Rotary supported project. We purchased bags of the dehydrated soup to make for our luncheon. The soup provided nourishment but was pretty bland. So, the next year, John Mosley had the idea of making it a Soup Contest having members sign up to bring an enhanced soup of their choice using the dehydrated mix. In 2006, it was decided to stop using the mix as a base for the soups. Over the years this project has grown from just a soup cookoff to a soup, chili, and dessert cookoff with members casting $1 votes for each of their favorites. In 2017, we stopped sending support to HungerPlus, Inc. and opted to donate the funds raised that year to a local organization, The Lord’s Diner. In 2018 & 2019 donations were sent to ShelterBox, a Rotary Project Partner for disaster relief, and last year to Paxton’s Blessing Box. This year proceeds will once again go to ShelterBox due to our club’s close connection to the project. Our International Service Committee has taken it on as one of their projects and Ed Frey is our Rotary District Coordinator for ShelterBox.

Plan to join us at Venue 3130, 3130 W. Central (don't go to RHCC!) Bring one dollar bills to cast your votes for your favorites.

If you signed up to bring a food item, please arrive early so we can get it all arranged to start the buffet line at noon. Don’t forget to bring a serving utensil.

DAVID WEBER EXTRA EFFORT AWARDS
Prior to Covid, our David Weber Extra Effort Award presentations were made at one of our club meetings each month during the school year. The selected students attended our meeting with their teacher for the presentation. After Covid, the change was made to have the presentation in the classroom at the schools (Lawrence & Benton Elementary). Terry Gardner is the Project Chair and he enlists on of our members each month to help him make the presentations. Since we can't all be there to see, Mark Chamberlin made a video and posted it on our club’s YouTube Channel, as well as, our club website. This notice was also e-mailed to you so be sure to check it out!
