HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
Our club is now accepting applications for this year's High School Scholarships for graduating seniors from our club's area who plan to attend a Kansas Vo-Tech school. Scott Hinderliter, Vocational Service Chair, is overseeing this project. Spread the word! 
Here are the guidelines:
Two Trade School Scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded for the 2021-2022 academic year
Qualifications:
* Graduating seniors from our area west side High Schools (Northwest, Bishop Carroll, Maize, Maize South, Goddard, Goddard Eisenhower) who plan to attend a Kansas trade school
* Proven involvement in school, church, and community activities
Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.50 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
* A letter of recommendation from a teacher / administrator speaking to the quality of your work and study habits
* Cannot be an immediate family relative of a member of the Rotary Club of West Wichita
Applications are posted on our club website.
 
Our club received this THANK YOU card from one of our last year's High School Scholarship recipients,  Brent Escareno. 
He expressed his appreciation for the support shown to him. He is in his 2nd semester at Pratt Community College studying Electrical Power Technology.
 
CHRISTMAS FAMILY DELIVERIES
Mark Hansen led the Christmas grocery shopping and gift deliveries on December 18, assisted by: Terry Gardner, Randy Bowles, Brian Goudie, Scott Hinderliter and his son, Zach, Rod Brown, Heidi Bowen, Vern Klassen and Bob Broeckelman. Mark reported  they delivered the Christmas gifts (purchased by our members - thank you!) to four families from Lawrence Elementary and the holiday groceries went to four families from Benton Elementary. 
 
Heidi carried on the tradition set by her father, David Weber, of making sure Oreos were in the grocery bag for the families.
 
 
The 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
BOOKSHELF BUILDING
Join us for our annual building of bookshelves for the first graders at Lawrence & Benton Elementary Schools this Thursday, January 13, 6:30 p.m. at Bob Goebel's workshop, located behind his house at 335 Fairhaven.
The bookshelves will be delivered to the schools on Tuesday, February 1 so mark your calendar! The deliveries will take the place of our regular club meeting that day and all members are invited!
ROTARY DISTRICT MEAL PACKING EVENT
January 17, 2022, 2:00 p.m.  (Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day)
Derby Welcome Center 
(611 N Mulberry Rd)
The District goal is to package
20,000 meals @ $0.30 per meal=$6,000 -- which breaks
down to 100 volunteers @ $60 each. 
Our board has approved $600 for this project (based on 10 volunteers @ $60 each)

STAR CLASS MEETING UPDATE: 
Our next STAR Class will be held January 25 (not the 18th), 11:30, before our club meeting. 
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING: Vern Klassen reported that our club raised $314.82.
NOVEMBER ROTARY BIRTHDAY DRAWING: Katie Dawes' name was drawn so she will be given the opportunity to name a charity for our club's donation.
ROTARY AWARENESS WINNER: Diana Fredelake
DAVID WEBER EXTRA EFFORT AWARDS were delivered to the selected students at Benton Elementary in December.

CLUB AWARD PRESENTATION
       
At our December 14 club meeting, District Governor, Fred Heismeyer, presented a certificate for our club's financial support of End Polio Now: Countdown to History Campaign and a Rotary Foundation banner for being Number 1 in the District in per capita Annual Fund giving to The Rotary Foundation. These recognitions were for the 2020-21 Rotary year under Colin McKenney's Presidency.
