Last week's meeting...

Randy Bowles, Club President

                                                                  Report by Jodi Besthorn...
Our guests were from Wilbur Middle School.  Spearheaded by Randy Bowles, the Board has endorsed looking at new ways to reach young people with a Rotary experience in west Wichita.  We already support the elementary schools, and look to restart Interact for the high school youth.  And NEW for the 2022-23 Rotary year, we will be working with Wilbur Middle School. The Community Service Committee will take the lead.
We will be working with Elexia Faulkner – 6th Grade teacher and AVID teacher at Wilbur; and  Erika Carrillo - Counselor at Wilbur.  AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, which means to succeed by your own personal motivation.  They work with 50 students who can succeed with additional support.  They are anxious to work with us on several activities such as map painting and we can be a resource for the teachers by our roles in the community.
We presented a check for $500 to the teachers as seed money to support AVID projects and opportunities.
