Sara Sawer, MPH, RD, LD - Sara is a Registered Dietitian and the Nutrition, Health & Wellness Agent for K-State Research and Extension Sedgwick County. In this role, she helps adults in Sedgwick County make simple, sustainable changes to improve their health, manage chronic conditions, and feel their best. Sara also collaborates with community partners to find creative, practical solutions for improving access to healthy foods in the area. With a Bachelor’s in Dietetics from Kansas State University and a Master of Public Health from the University of Kansas, Sara combines expertise and passion to support healthier communities.
Amy Draut, MPP - Amy is the EFNEP and SNAP-Ed Agent for K-State Research and Extension Sedgwick County. In this role, she oversees a team of nutrition educators who help individuals and families in Sedgwick County make the healthy choice the easy choice by encouraging small behavior changes related to food choices, physical activity, and food resource management. EFNEP and SNAP-Ed work with community partners to bring nutrition education to the places people eat, live, work, shop, learn, worship, and play. With a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Wichita State University and Master of Public Policy from Northeastern University, Amy is passionate about helping community partners implement changes to impact policies, systems, and environments that address the root causes of hunger and poverty, and improve access to healthy and affordable foods.
About Kitchen Restore - The Kitchen Restore program provides kitchen starter kits to low-resource households. Adult participants in K-State Research and Extension nutrition education programs serving individuals at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) are eligible for a kit. Kits include a range of items to help households prepare and eat more nutritious meals at home. Funding for Kitchen Restore is made possible through donations and grants. We are grateful to West Wichita Rotary for the sponsorship and support they have provided for this initiative.
The Happy Basket at our club meetings was introduced in March 2008, inspired by one of our members who attended a Rotary Club in Texas where they had a similar tradition. He brought the idea back to our club, and it has been a fun and engaging part of our meetings ever since. The Happy Basket serves as a lighthearted way for members to share updates about their lives while also raising funds for our club’s foundation, which supports our charitable initiatives. During each meeting, members contribute a dollar to the basket in exchange for the opportunity to share news. Additionally, members can promote their business or community events (aka "Shameless Plug") for a donation of $5 or more.
MESSAGE from President Ed:
At our Board meeting on February 10, we discussed the best approach for members to share non-Rotary activities with the club. The Board fully supports members' involvement in the community and encourages them to take advantage of the "Shameless Plug" time during our weekly meetings to share any programs or events they are passionate about. This provides a great opportunity to inform member about activities outside of Rotary that you're engaged in.
To ensure we protect our membership list and maintain privacy, the Board requests that individual members refrain from sending emails directly to the entire club. As a general guideline, all communications intended for the full membership should be sent through Diane. She maintains the most up-to-date list of member emails and, if she has any questions regarding communication, she can reach out to Board members for approval.
