"Updates about what the City is doing and how Covid has impacted their planning"

With 25 years dedicated to a career of service, I have developed a reputation as an organizational development leader with a commitment to people-oriented management skills and the efficient use of resources. My passion for municipal government, and the interaction of employees with citizens, is to develop the best quality of life possible for residents. To meet the needs of 400,000 citizens: The Parks and Recreation Department provides quality programming, the highest level of maintenance and operations of parks, innovative planning, golf operations rated as the best in Kansas; with 200 dedicated employees.

PAXTON'S BLESSING BOX

Paxton’s Blessing Box (PBB) started from a simple idea that Maggie Ballard saw on social media back in August 2016. She shared the photo with her son, Paxton, then age six, and they both felt that their house would be the perfect place for a Blessing Box to fill with non-perishable food and hygiene products for those in need.

Shortly afterwards they enlisted the skills of a handy friend who built the first Blessing Box. Maggie and Paxton placed it in their front yard and painted it bright crimson red, their favorite color. Next, they filled it with food and personal hygiene products, it’s been stocked by donations ever since. That was October 2016.

Fast forward to 2021, there are now over 80 Blessing Boxes scattered throughout the Wichita area, Kansas towns, and other states!

Maggie and Paxton’s goal continues to be adding new PBB locations across the United States. All that is needed it the same passion and love to help feed those in need, via sponsorship of a Blessing Box.

OUR CLUB'S INVOLVEMENT...

Our club sponsored the installation of a Blessing Box at Lawrence Elementary. While it will provide food for needy families at the school (many of the families our club services through our Monthly Grocery project and Holiday Groceries) it is open to anyone in the community who is in need. The box provides primarily non-perishable items such as canned goods, dry goods and packaged snacks. We may check in on the box but the Lawrence staff will be in charge of overseeing it. You are welcome at any time to stock it with food donations. If you would like to bring items to this week's meeting, Sharon West has volunteered to deliver them.

TOGETHER, WE SEE A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE UNITE AND TAKE ACTION
TO CREATE LASTING CHANGE ACROSS THE GLOBE, IN OUR COMMUNITIES, AND IN OURSELVES

Donation Options
Did you know you have options on where your Foundation donations go?
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. These donations include the Annual Fund, PolioPlus or an approved Foundation grant. All donations go into the Annual Fund unless you specifically designate it for PolioPlus. While our club has very generously donated to The Rotary Foundation this year,
only $190 out of $14,380 has been pledged to Polio Plus.

Polio Plus: Eighteen million people around the world who would have died or been paralyzed are alive and walking because of the polio eradication campaign. Health workers and volunteers supported by PolioPlus grants have built an infrastructure for delivering health care and collecting data that, in many parts of the world, didn’t exist before. It’s already being used to improve overall health care and to fight other diseases, proving that the legacy of PolioPlus is more than eradicating a deadly disease from the planet — it’s also building a stronger health system that provides better access to lifesaving interventions for the world’s most vulnerable children.
Annual Fund: The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Donations given to the Annual Fund are used for service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

As you can see, your donations are all being used very wisely. This information just serves as an awareness of your options with your contribution.
