Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition
Dawn Shepler is the Executive Director of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition.  Dawn’s passion is being an advocate that influences public policy, improves individual and community health, and helps reduce health disparities.  She has spent 30 years in law enforcement as a communication specialist and specialized mental health parole officer.  Dawn has been active with assisting those in corrections and law enforcement with peer support and wellness.  She has been awarded by NAMI and the Kansas Department of Corrections for being a part of implementing Crisis Intervention Training to Sedgwick County.  The CIT board has successfully trained and certified over 500 local law enforcement officers, corrections officers, EMS and dispatchers as CIT Officers.   Dawn holds a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice with focus on sociology from Wichita State University.  She grew up in a small town in Cowley County and enjoys her time being outside and enjoying nature.  She also likes to bake for others and appreciates her time with her son, Cale.

Dave Abbott has had a heart for Rotary since he first joined the Shawnee Mission Rotary Club in 1989. From there, he continued his Rotary membership wherever his job took him, including Leavenworth (twice), Johnson County and then to Wichita in the Sunrise Rotary Club in 2005 and to our West Wichita club in 2019. He served as President of the Leavenworth Club and President and Treasurer in the Sunrise Rotary club. He maintained 100% attendance during the majority of his years in Rotary.

He is currently our club's Dillons Community Fund Raiser coordinator and heads up international water projects. He’s helped with a variety of our club projects, such as bookshelf deliveries, Holiday and Monthly grocery deliveries, Map Painting, Riverfest Food Court Ticket Sales, and more. 
 
Dave is a Paul Harris Fellow+6. He has been serving as the District Global Grant Chair since 2012 and has served as a Chair for the District’s Stewardship subcommittee, Annual Fund subcommittee, and the Fundraising subcommittee. 
 
As recognition for his previous service, he received a Service Above Self Award in the Leavenworth Club and the Sunrise Club and was presented with the Ozzie Goering award for International Service.

Downtown Rotary: Mitch Holthus - Voice of the KC Chiefs will be the Oliver Elliott Speaker Series featured speaker at Downtown Rotary's Monday meeting on March 25. Area Interactors will also do a "commercial" during the business portion of the meeting to highlight their activities over the past year.  Lunch buffet opens 11:30; business meeting Noon and speaker begins approx., 12:20 pm.  Reservations are required in advance. $25 for buffet and speaker.

MEET OUR NEWEST MEMBER:
Fe Vorderlandwehr
  
Fe comes to us from the Downtown Rotary Club where she has been a member for the past 8 years.
 
Fe Vorderlandwehr is the Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association – Central and Western Kansas Chapter. Her passion for those living with and caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another dementia fuels her determination to guide the Chapter in providing care and support services for the 55,000 individuals living in Kansas with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
 
Prior to working with the Alzheimer’s Association, Fe worked as the Wichita director of the American Diabetes Association, and as the community center director for McConnell Air Force Base.  Her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wichita State University included a major in public relations and a minor in marketing.
 
Fe cares deeply for her community and is on the planning committee for Lead Wichita’s Global Leadership Summit. She is an Honorary Commander for McConnell Airforce Base, a member of Women of Wichita and our West Wichita Rotary Club. In 2008 she was named one of Wichita Business Journal’s 40 under 40 and is a member of the 2018 Leadership Wichita class. 
 
When she is not working, you’ll find Fe with her family; son Isaac, 18, and husband James.
