TODAY'S SPEAKER
Nov 03, 2020 12:00 PM
The Salvation Army - Koch Center

Director of Community Engagement for The Salvation Army serving all of Metro Wichita and Sedgwick County. Craig and his family are true Wichitan's at least for the last 35 years, by way of St Louis where he and his wife Susan grew up. He started his career with aspirations of being a high school band director, but changed directions for the excitement of communications and broadcasting industry, which led him eventually to Wichita.

Craig is beginning his fourth year with The Salvation Army, helping tell the story of the Global organization that began here in Wichita, in 1865, when two Salvation Army sisters road their bicycles south from Hutchinson to begin to save souls and coordinate the very first meeting at 601 E Douglas.

Annual Christmas Luncheon
Due to a "covid schedule", the Friends Concert Choir will not be able to join us this year as has been our tradition for the past 30+ years. Therefore, we are making other special plans for that day. We will have our regular buffet with a holiday dessert to celebrate the season and will continue to practice covid precautions.  As always, your spouse or a guest is welcome to attend with you. We will have our Angel Tree tags available at that meeting for members to choose to purchase gifts for needy families.

DISTRICT'S "FOOD FOR OUR NEIGHBORS" PROJECT
Our club participated in round two of the District’s Food for our Neighbor’s project. Rod Brown delivered the 50 food boxes our club received to the Dear Neighbor Ministries. Rod is shown here with Mariem Martinez, the Outreach Advocate in charge of food donations. Rod reported that Ms. Martinez has a constant stream of people daily who depend heavily on some form of nutrition from Dear Neighbor Ministries and she had actually purchased the same product in the past with favorable comments from recipients.
MONTHLY GROCERY PROJECT

District Governor Issues $100 per member PolioPlus Challenge
As your District Governor, I went way out on a limb this week, with my wife Tina, issuing a PolioPlus challenge to all 60 clubs in our great KS OK Rotary District 5680.. We are challenging each Club to average $100 per member in PolioPlus donations for this Rotary year, ending June 30, 2021. We are even allowing the Clubs to make gifts from their own treasuries or foundations, as well as including all net proceeds from fundraisers , along with gifts from individual Club Members, in determining whether they have met that $100 average. So far, all of the Clubs contacted by us personally, have accepted the challenge. Please reach out to us let us know that your Club is stepping up. You can contact Tina and me at danabrewerdg5680@gmail.com - Phone- (785) 614-1089; OR District Secretary,Treasurer Kent Erb at Rotary5680@gmail.com - Phone- (316) 772-6447. Our Rotary Journey is a cherished collection of experiences, shared with our fellow Rotarians! This is an opportunity for all of us to mutually share the experience of giving until it hurts…and, as your parents
in their wisdom used to tell you, this is going to hurt me far more than it is going to hurt you! And, when we succeed in meeting our goal, we will have raised a total with all matches (times 2 from RI World Fund, then times 3 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation = times 6 altogether) of approximately $1,620,000, plus the matched total of our gift of $6,000 or $36,000 = $1,656,000. All through the power of US – Kansas and Oklahoma Rotarians!

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Tony and Sara Morrow
Tony Morrow was presented with our club's 2020 Service Above Self Award. It was originally scheduled to be presented to him last Spring but COVID sidelined that plan.
Each year, our club members are given the opportunity to nominate a fellow Rotarian for our club’s Service Above Self Award. The names submitted are reviewed by our Nominating Committee made up of past recipients. The purpose of the award is to recognize a fellow Rotarian for the outstanding contributions they make to the community, our club, social, religious, educational, business ethics, and/or other worthwhile activities which make Wichita a better community.

Tony has been a member of our club for the past 10 years. He has served on our Board in a variety of capacities, including Club President and Treasurer. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and has served as our Monthly Grocery coordinator. In the community, Tony is involved with StepStone and Dear Neighbor Ministries.

One member summed it up by saying, “Tony always has a servant's heart and excels at any task given.”
Congratulations Tony!
