Wicked Wichita - A look at Wichita's early crimes, criminals and law enforcers

Joe was born and raised in Alton, Il., which Newsweek once described as a “dirty little river town.” Joe prefers to think of it as the home of Robert Wadlow, the world’s tallest man.

He studied at the University of Missouri. Worked for newspapers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas covering politics, crime, and everything in between. Joe moved to Wichita in late 1999 to become the Eagle’s food editor.

After getting “downsized” in 2009 he worked as a freelance writer for the New York Times, Aerospace America, Agence-France Presse, and many other publications and clients. He became editor of The Active Age two years ago.

Joe enjoys playing music, cooking, working out, and tending chickens with his wife, Carrie Rengers, who’s also a writer. They live in Riverside. “Wicked Wichita” is his first book.
