Wichita Airport Authority
Apr 21, 2026 12:00 PM
A native to Los Angeles, Jesse has been a Kansan by choice for the last 20 years. He holds degrees from UCLA and Embry-Riddle; is an accredited airport executive; and is currently serving as a board member for the Kansas Aviation Museum and United Way of the Plains. With over 25 years of management and leadership experience in various industries, Jesse also has 12 years of teaching experience at both Baker and K-State University. Prior to Wichita, Jesse served as the Director of the Manhattan Regional Airport in Manhattan, Kansas (not to be confused with that other “Manhattan”); and he served as the Director of Aviation for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He was most recently honored as an executive of the year by the Wichita Business Journal. In 2003, Jesse began his career as an airport management intern at the Hollywood Burbank Airport; however, his aviation experience began in 1993 when he first attained his pilot’s license. That passion for aviation never leaves. You can still catch him watching airplanes from his office. |

52nd Admiral Windwagon Smith
Apr 28, 2026 12:00 PM
Ron McEwen’s connection to Riverfest spans many years and began on a personal note, as the festival once served as a date-night destination for him and his wife, Lisa, when they camped along the riverbanks during the festival early in their relationship. That personal connection continued over time. In 2016, McEwen’s daughter, Dani, was selected as a Prairie Schooner Mate—an experience he credits with helping her grow in confidence, build lifelong friendships, and shape her path as a teacher in Wichita.
Beyond Riverfest, McEwen is actively involved in the community. He volunteers with Kansas Honor Flights, serving as a sponsor for veterans who would otherwise travel alone. He has also served on the board and spends many hours with Wichita’s Little Heroes. In addition, he is a current board member of Wichita Festivals, Inc. and an active member of its Sponsorship Committee. McEwen was selected as Admiral 52 in recognition of his longstanding commitment to the community through his involvement with Riverfest, Wagonmasters, his church, and other civic efforts. He is a respected business owner and a proven leader in our community.
About Riverfest…From the City’s Centennial celebration in 1970 emerged the vision of a festival that would bring the entire community together, build civic pride, and highlight Wichita’s beautiful natural resource—the Arkansas River.Following the incorporation of Wichita Festivals, Inc. in 1971, board members selected May 27, 1972, to hold the first Wichitennial River Festival and Traders Day. Over the years, it has been known as the Wichitennial River Festival, the Wichita River Festival, and simply Riverfest, but its mission remains the same: bringing the community together in celebration. This year’s Riverfest will be held May 29 – June 6.

"Soccer & the World Cup"
May 19, 2026 12:00 PM
Scott Dyer’s passion for soccer began at age four when he watched his older cousin play and immediately knew he wanted to join the game. Although told he was too small to start right away, he began playing at age five, launching a lifelong connection to the sport. Soccer remained a major part of his life through his youth, college years, and active duty service in the United States Air Force.
After moving to Wichita in 2004, Scott joined the historic adult soccer club, the Wheathawks, where he continued competing in leagues and tournaments until age 40. He later spent 13 years coaching his two sons in youth soccer and has now served as a soccer referee for the past 10 years. While refereeing comes with plenty of vocal feedback from players and fans, Scott says it remains a great way to stay active and connected to the game.
Above all, Scott is a lifelong soccer fan, and he considers the FIFA World Cup to be the pinnacle of the sport and its global community.
Scott is a member of the Rotary Club of WSC-Sunrise.
